Chatfield’s 3rd Place Finish, Eyes PGA TOUR Card
Davis Chatfield caught fire in the final round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s NV5 Invitational on Sunday, carding a final round 64 to finish in a tie for third place. The former Rhode Island Amateur champ finished the tournament at 22-under par, three shots behind winner Thomas Rosenmueller.
The top three finish has Chatfield projected to go from 40th to 33rd on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List.
The top 30 at the end of the season get PGA Tour Cards.
Starting the final round inside the top 20, Chatfield lit up the front side to give himself a chance. He opened with a birdie on the par-5 first hole by draining an 11 footer. Chatfield dropped a nine-footer for birdie on the third hole to get to two under par on the round. On the par-5 fifth hole, Chatfield stuck his third shot right next to the flag and had a tap in birdie putt to move him to three-under on the day. The former Notre Dame star would add birdies on the seventh and ninth holes to turn at a bogey-free five-under par. Chatfield made his first and only bogey of the day on the par-3 11th hole when he put his tee shot in the bunker on the left.
However, he bounced back.
On the 13th, Chatfield put his second shot to two-feet and tapped in for birdie. After a clutch par save on 14, Chatfield’s putter was hot again on 15 where he knocked in a 21 footer for birdie to get to six-under for the day.
He made par on both the 16th and 17th holes, taking him to the par-5 18th hole where an eagle would have tied him for the lead – at least temporarily. Chatfield put his tee shot in the right rough and had to lay up on the left side of the fairway, not wanting to take on the water.
He his his third shot to 11 feet and made the putt for birdie to get to 22-under par.
