Petrovic Shines with Back to Back Top-10 Finishes at Major Championships
Veteran golfer Tim Petrovic has once again proven his competitive edge on the PGA TOUR Champions, securing top-10 finishes at both the 2025 U.S. Senior Open and the Kaulig Companies Championship. The 58-year-old Massachusetts native showcased his skill and resilience, earning praise for his performance in these prestigious senior major events. At the 45th U.S. Senior Open, held at The Broadmoor’s East Course in Colorado Springs from June 26-29, Petrovic finished tied for ninth, highlighted by a rare hole-in-one on the par-3 8th hole. Using a pitching wedge from 178 yards, Petrovic aced the challenging hole, joining an elite group of players with a hole-in-one during the championship. His steady play on the tricky, heavily sloping Broadmoor layout resulted in a notable finish alongside Jason Caron, Dicky Pride, and Cameron Percy. The tournament saw Padraig Harrington claim his second U.S. Senior Open title with a one-shot victory over Stewart Cink, but Petrovic’s performance, including his memorable ace, was a standout moment.
Just weeks earlier, Petrovic made waves at the Kaulig Companies Championship, the third major of the 2025 PGA TOUR Champions season, held at Firestone Country Club’s South Course in Akron, Ohio, from June 17-22. Petrovic surged into contention with a second-round 4-under 66, tying for the lead with Steven Alker and Ricardo Gonzalez at 5-under 135. His round featured seven birdies, capped by a birdie putt on the par-4 ninth, showcasing his ability to navigate the demanding Firestone layout. Despite a third-round 71, Petrovic finished tied for sixth at 4-under, maintaining his strong form in a field stacked with golf’s legends, including Miguel Angel Jiménez and Ángel Cabrera.
Petrovic, who turned professional in 1988 and won the 2005 Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA TOUR, has been a consistent contender on the PGA TOUR Champions since joining in 2016. Although he has yet to claim a victory on the senior circuit, his 11 runner-up finishes, including three in senior majors, underscore his competitiveness. His recent performances have boosted his Charles Schwab Cup standing, moving him from 38th to a stronger position as he eyes a spot in the season-ending championship.

Reflecting on his Kaulig Companies Championship performance, Petrovic noted, “I’ve been hitting it well the last few weeks and I just haven’t had much to show for it because I haven’t really had many putts. Then made a couple long putts early, I’m like, ‘Oh, wait a second, maybe we’ve got something going here.’” His ability to capitalize on key moments, like the birdie on the ninth at Firestone and the ace at The Broadmoor, highlights his enduring skill and mental toughness.
Petrovic’s top-10 finishes in these majors add to his impressive resume, which includes a tie for second at the U.S. Senior Open in 2018 at The Broadmoor, where he finished one stroke behind champion David Toms. His familiarity with the East Course, combined with his recent form, made his latest performance there particularly significant.
As Petrovic continues his 2025 campaign, his recent results signal he remains a force to be reckoned with on the PGA TOUR Champions. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the Hartford alum can convert his strong showings into a long-awaited first senior tour victory. With the ISPS HANDA Senior Open on the horizon, Petrov ic is poised to keep his momentum going and continue challenging the best in senior golf.
