Mirabel Ting Wins Again, Rises to #1 on Epson Tour
Heading into the week in Garden City, no Epson Tour member was able to call themselves a two-time champion for the season. Looking at the top of the leaderboard entering the final round, there were a handful of players looking to change that. By the end of the day on Sunday, Mirabel Ting was the one who rose above the rest to secure her second win of the season and claim the top spot in the Race for the Card with just three events to play.
Ting has been at the top of the leaderboard since the first 18 holes of play on Friday, and Sunday was no different. The round started off slow for Ting, who made a couple of birdies in her first nine holes, but was still behind the leaders heading into the turn.
The back nine is when the rookie came to life, making back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11, following up with back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14. The 4-under stretch for the five holes moved Ting into the lead by four shots. Once she had the lead, she never looked back. The 20-year-old drew on her experience to get into the clubhouse without dropping a shot and securing her second victory of the season.
“I feel great. I mean, to get the second win is actually, I would say, pretty hard still,” said Ting with a smile. “I was not as nervous as I thought I would be coming into the last few holes, but overall I played good golf this week and there’s a lot of improvement to be done still.”
The closest finisher to Ting by the end of the day finished well before her, with Dorsey Addicks putting up a 6-under round of her own. Addicks finished a couple groups ahead of the eventual champion, but it is a career-best finish for the Epson Tour veteran. She will head into the last stretch of events with confidence and a game she felt has been there all season.
“Yeah, the goal doesn’t really change. It’s just kind of stay focused on each shot and stay in the process. But no, I’ve been playing some really good golf. The results hadn’t really been showing it. Struggled with putting. Went back to aim point and really was rolling it well this week after putting it back in play last week,” explained Addicks. “So excited about where the games at for the end of the season and just it’s good momentum to take into the last three.”
The Epson Tour will have a week off before heading to Alabama for the Guardian Championship at RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill.
