Fidelity Sports Group Clients Earn Full Status at Q-School

Fidelity Sports Group clients had a fantastic week at the final stage of Web.com Tour Q-School in Chandler, Arizona at Whirlwind Golf Club. Five FSG clients were in the field, and they all finished Top 45 to earn full status for the 2018 Web.com Tour Season.

Mark Blakefield fired rounds of 69-65-66-66 to finish tied for third at 22 under par.  The finish secures Mark with guaranteed starts in the first 12 events of the 2018 Web.com Tour season. Blakefield, a former college stand out at University of Kentucky, played most of 2017 on PGA Tour Canada.  Blakefield finished 14th on the money list in Canada, thanks to a win at the National Capitol Open which earned him an exemption to 2nd stage of Q-School. Blakefield then advanced to final stage by way of a 6th place finish at 2nd stage at Southern Hills Golf Club in Brooksville, Florida.

Brian Richey returns to the Web.com Tour in 2018 after having membership in 2015 and 2016.  In 2017, Richey’s schedule focused on PGA Tour Latin America where he was a dominate member of the Tour. Richey compiled 10 Top 25 finishes and 7 Top 10 finishes in 17 starts on PGA Tour Latin America in his 2017 campaign, including a break through victory in Uruguay at the Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC (an event also won by Lanto Griffin in 2015). Richey ended the season on PGA Tour Latin America 3rd on the Money List. Like Blakefield, Richey also has guaranteed starts in the first twelve Web.com events of the 2018 season thanks to his 5th place finish at final stage.

Grant Leaver‘s clutch performance in Sunday’s final round was one of the most impressive performances of the week. Grant started Q-School with rounds of 74-70 left him well behind the pace for full-status, top-45 finish. After posting 6-under 66 on Saturday, Leaver was four shots off the pace to start Sunday’s final round.  An incredible 9 under par performance for a round of 63 on Sunday secured his full status for 2018. His final round included 1 eagle, 8 birdies, 1 bogey and 8 pars. Leaver’s 30th place finish secures him starts in the first 8 events of the 2018 Web.com Tour season. Additionally, after four wins in 2017 Leaver finished 4th and 2nd in 1st and 2nd stages of Q-School to punch his ticket to the final stage.

Brandon Matthews, 23, over powered the golf courses at Whirlwind Golf Club en route to securing his full status for the 2018 Web.com Tour season, finishing “on the number” of 14 under par to tie for 42nd. Legend of Matthews’ power continued to grow this week , as he hit multiple 600 yard par fives in two with seven and eight irons on his second shot in to the green. After graduating from Temple University in 2016, Matthews played on PGA Tour Latin America for most of 2017 becoming the youngest American to win on the Tour with his victory in Argentina. Matthews was forced to take time off this fall in order rest a sore lower back. His plan worked perfectly, as he returned to competition at final stage in full form firing rounds of 70-68-65-71 to secure full status. He will have guaranteed starts in to the first eight events of the 2018 season.

Justin Lower successfully sought redemption in the Q-School process this fall. A Web.com Tour member in 2017, Justin did not keep his status for 2018 forcing him back to Q-School this fall. Lower finished 4th and 14th place finishes in 1st and 2nd stages of Q-School earned Justin a trip to final stage in Arizona.  Lower was behind the pace thru 36 holes after opening with 75-66-69 for a 6 under par total, 4 shots off the pace like Leaver.  An incredible eagle-birdie-par-birdie finish on his last four holes secured full status “on the number” of 14 under par. Lower will also have guaranteed starts in the first 8 events of the 2018 Web.com Tour season.
